I recently installed Forefront security for SharePoint on our MOSS 2007 server. After the installation, I got a complaint that none of the SharePoint sites were accessible. Upon investigation I noticed that the following error got thrown out:HRESULT: 0x80041051 This was mind boggling. I noticed that the Central Administration site was working perfectly and also our EPM site. I deduced that Forefront caused this problem. The only useable information I could retrieve from Google actually applied to SharePoint Server 2003 (support.microsoft.com/kb/928169 ) but proved helpful none the less. The other hits regarding this error code applies to WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) which in this case was not applicable. I deduced from the Microsoft Support article that Forefront added three new Columns to the SharePoint content Databases. They are respectively – VirusVendorID; VirusStatus and VirusInfo. A query was ran to see whether Forefront marked some files in the dbo.AllDocs table as infected:  SELECT * FROM Docs           WHERE (VirusStatus > 0) AND (VirusStatus IS NOT NULL) The results from the query indicated that 1106 files have been marked with values 1 or 2 in the VirusStatus and VirusInfo columns and in some instances long integer strings in the VirusVendorID columns. I still aren’t too sure what these values mean but I can only guess that it indicates infected files. What really struck me as odd, was the fact that a manual scan job ran from within Forefront did not reveal any infected files. We also use Sophos Anti-virus throughout our organisation and it is fully updated and also gave the server a clean bill of health.  After  uninstalling  Forefront I noticed that the tables in SQL remained unchanged. I then set out to change all these columns (VirusVendorID; VirusStatus and VirusInfo) with the altered values to NULL values: Update dbo.allDocs 
Set VirusVendorID=NULL, VirusStatus=NULL, VirusInfo=NULL
where (VirusStatus > 0) AND (VirusStatus IS NOT NULL) This solved the problem and Sharepoint is fully accessible again with no problems. Needless to say, I am very unimpressed with Forefront. 

P.S - The Sharepoint Admin before me saw it fitting to insert our service packs and software into a Document library. This inflated our Sharepoint Content database to nearly 80 GIGs. Couldnt the presence of .exe files in the database have caused the problem? The service packs and software files have been removed from the libraries and all is well now. Without Forefront :p

As yet I have not had the time to play with Forefront or even test how it works.

I find your post extremely interesting and I have decided that I will find the software and play with it myself.

As far as your theory goes with the *.exe that are uploaded into the content database, I think you are correct, but I will have to test this for myself before I can give you an conclusion.

Unfortunately Microsoft has a reputation for faulty software on their first release.

I thought it was a good idea at the the time but now I can't afford the maintenance fees and the property taxes i have to pay every year.
