We have started a company blog that I am trying to display in our sharepoint home page. I have followed your instructions but am having a problem where the blog opens up instead. i.e. you navigate to the home page and you see the blog site in the web part for about 1second and then the blog site opens up (not in a new tab or in a new window - it just takes over and opens up on the current page)

Is there a setting somewhere that can stop this from happening?

Hi all I am fairly new to installation of WFE I have completed the steps successfully but now i would like to know is there a possible way to test whether you have configured it correctly. can i only access that WFE be i certain cusomizations that i would like to check.

Fantastic work around.

Incidentally it works without disabling the webclient service.

The webclient service is necessary to support WebDav from the Client in Windows 2008 and vista. XP had the service installed by default and enabled. 2008 does not...not sure about Vista.

Without the webclient service the client does not use webdav and as a result lots of the Office integration will not work...things like "Open in windows explorer view" are likely to bomb out becuase they rely on webdav as a first protocol.

Anyrate...your work around is fantastic. I had been to lots of site avocating changing the webapp to kerberos as a authentication provider and that has it complications / gotcha's....I perfer your solution.

Nice read,

I recently upgrade from from WSS2 to MOSS 2007 and so far so good..

Currently moving sites into their own site collections.

Currently DB holds 120 sites of which 85 are active (2.5TB in size)

How do I could create an additional content database and move active sites to the new database. We are also removing old/expired/stale data during the process.

I'm no SQL guru, so will the above create another .mdf

Eventually end up with 2 content databases balancing the site collections (50/50)

But If I navigate Articles in my sharepoint site, it is opening new browser. I want to open the Articles within my sharepoint site.

A more simple approach (even for WSS): The SharePoint Business Data List Connector (BDLC) provides the complete read-only features of a common SharePoint list for almost any external data sources in 3 simple steps only:

- enter connection string

- enter select statement

- choose primary key(s)

Then your data are in a real SharePoint list. Updates are done in backround very fast (batch update, changed data only). So you have all list features available, e.g. notifications and workflows, if external data records are changed and business actions must be taken.

Neil, our users of Sharepoint 2007 can't double click on a PDF in a Sharepoint library and have Acrobat Pro automatically open the PDF. So, we can't, for example, extract pages or add pages to our PDFs, nor use Touch-Up Text, etc.

If we double-click on a PDF in a document library, we get, "The document could not be opened for editing. A Windows Sharepoint Services compatible application could not be found to edit the document."

If the PDF happens to be checked out in Sharepoint, we get a different error message: "There was an error opening this document., The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."

And, if we view the library in Windows Explorer mode, we still can't edit our PDFs with Acrobat Pro...instead, double clicking on a PDF in a Windows Explorer view of the sharepoint server folder, produces this bizarre message: "There was an error opening this document. The file cannot be found."

Why is this? We would expect that when the user double clicks on any PDF file that it can access on any drive or server, their PC would go looking for the application associated with that file type. Do we need to associate PDFs and Acrobat, somehow, within Sharepoint? Or is our Sharepoint server somehow experiencing a software incompatibility and needs a patch, or something?

"Click to Edit" is one of the basic functionalities that computer users worldwide, have come to expect. Not being able to use Acrobat to work on PDFs that are stored in a Sharepoint library, is an enormous problem that will be a major Sharepoint show-stopper for many organizations. Unfortunately they may not find out about this problem until after they've spent $30K and invested a lot of man-hours in adopting this system.

i`m trying to create an Pivot Table in Sharepoint using your example but i`m getting "Excel Services: Unexpected exception while trying to access Shared Services Database;. Error = ExcelServerSharedWebApplication.Local: Could not get the shared web application associated with this context. This indicates that the Excel Server service is not properly registered or provisioned..", i`m a beginner in sharepoint. i have research the error on the Internet but no luck. if you have any suggestion i will really appreciate it.

PS: the service for exel si turned on.

Hello I would like to Display an External website inside a sharepoint site. The issue i'm having with this is that not all users in the company have internet access. The moss server does have internet access. I added the page viewer webpart and the link to the website in the web part. Those users who do not have internet access are unable to see the website that was added to the web part.......

In order for the page viewer web part to display the external site on the client machine, the client machine must have internet access? Can you clarify this for me?

There are external sites which all users in the company need to have access to, but not all users have internet access so it was decided that moss can be used to facilitate this. After adding the page viewer web part with a link to the external site, client machines without internet access was not able to view the site.
